From reading that that is a great bit of kit.

Did you end up using a Rpi with it?Β  And have you tried the bluetooth with a phone?

I’m waiting for the Rpi to arrive, I’m looking forward to trying it and comparing to the Bluetooth option that I’ve used so far. As far as my ears can tell Bluetooth from the phone to the Topping is a LOT better than using cable from the phone to the TR1000.Β

And it should be even better with the Rpi. 😊

I use this one: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32983232191.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.28474c4dTPrKR2

honestly - the big surprise, look at the components eg Nichicon caps...

Very good price/quality ratio' I got it in 3 weeks from the order date. I see that the price increased a little bit ( was 32$ with shipping ) , but it's available in a few shops at the previous price.Β Β

I think I’m gonna buy one of those DACs with the PCA51102As and compare it to the Topping E30 and Topping D50s that I currently own. The Toppings are also know to give really great value for money. If the really cheap ones can produce a similar sound quality, well then I’ll sell my Toppings 😀

hello where to buy 50S,karol

I bought it at https://www.hifisentralen.com/butikk/kategori/digitale-produkter/

But you find them on eBay and Alibabaexpress on so on.Β

For me the D50s sounds really good. I hear new details in songs I’ve never heard before.Β

I am trying out a Hegel HD25 with my setup. Was recommended this DAC and got it used for 850 euro. It's sound is lush, musical, with a huge soundstage and the details one would expect from a high-end DAC. I wanted this very model because it is said just to be less 'digital' and analytical than other high-end DACs. Many say it is the best DAC Hegel has made, better than the new and more expensive HD30. Interesting thing, it has germanium transistors in the analog section! Just like Huldra 8 and Huldra 9 😉 May that contribute to it's 'analog' sound?

I also have the HRT HD DAC, which is stunningly good considering it's price! I got mine used for 60 euro. It is almost as good as the Hegel, but falls short in total impression, it is more digital sounding and 'colder', less engaging. But the difference is not that big, and the HRT has incredibly good detail resolution.

I wonder if any of you have experience with Hegel's other DACs or any other brand of high-end DAC?

My computer is a thin-client Dell Wyse fanless, running an old Windows. No streaming. No internet connection. No bluetooth or wifi. No remote controls 🙂 I'm weird, right?

I like it! I is taking power from usb and it sounds much better than if I use my computer direct on my Tandbergs.Β

That's an interesting little DAC.
Yes having a DAC instead of the computers soundcard is a big improvement. I really was impressed how much difference the DAC as source does. A good investment. And maybe a first step to becoming a vintage-audiophile..

I agree on the major difference in sound using a good DAC. For me it was eye-opening (or should I say ear-opening). The sound opens up and is on a whole other level, even compared to my old CD-player.Β

In time, when money allows, I will try out different types of DACs. But for now I'm super happy with my Chi-Fi Topping D50s.Β
